Over the last few months, our team and clients have been through a lot of change – both at work and in our personal lives. The concrete recycling yard has remained open, along with product orders and deliveries, but it hasn’t exactly been “business as usual”.
We especially appreciate the patience of our incredible clients as we’ve worked on our systems to manage incoming product (our concrete pile is currently enormous!). Plus, we’ve had to make some changes to operate within government health and safety guidelines.
Since things are slowly returning to normal, we thought we’d share a little bit about our team and what we’ve been up to over the last few months (and what’s top of our to-do list now that restrictions are easing).
The MBR team during COVID-19
Hilary Dold, General Manager
The main change in how I’ve worked since the onset of COVID-19 has been greater awareness that people may prefer to keep their distance. Oh, and I’ve been working blind for the last two months waiting for Specsavers to open.
Over in the yard, we’re getting a lot more concrete brought in and our pile is enormous, which means we’re charging a processing fee. The new pump washout is officially up and running, too.
I miss shaking hands when I meet someone, as well as popping in to visit friends and going out for dinner. Here’s hoping I get to do more of those things soon!
Karen Garrod, Accounts
Over the last few months, I’ve become a lot more aware of everyone else’s germs and I don’t like standing, talking to, or being anywhere near people. (Thankfully, most of my job is done over phone and email, so that’s not such a big issue!) Honestly, I haven’t missed much during the pandemic – I love everything about it, especially that I don’t have to see anyone! But my bum missed the gym.
Cooper, Legend Loader Driver #1 (apparently…)
Over the last few months, we’ve been busy as bro with lots of material coming in. There’s been less going out, but it hasn’t slowed down enough that trucks don’t come on my smoko break! I look forward to being able to go out and do what I want again, like visiting the pub and going fishing.
We had plenty of concrete coming in, but not as much going out. But now, outgoing is starting to pick up again! Since lockdown, the yard has run so much smoother. That said, we still need another loader driver in the yard to help do little jobs and take care of interruptions that come up at smoko break. We’ve been busy as! I’m looking forward to seeing more of my kids and grandkids soon, enjoying BBQs and beers, and having more than one person in my boat.
Ross King, #1 Truck Driver (says he)
Since March, I’ve gone through a huge amount of sanitiser and focused on staying a safe distance away from people. Deliveries have been a bit quieter in the yard, but I’ve found that our team has worked well together and bonded more throughout the crisis. I look forward to deliveries getting busy again soon, socialising more, and taking my caravan away.
